Coming To Emergency
Effective December 30, 2021,
the Ontario government is limiting eligibility for PCR tests to individuals who
are symptomatic and have a high-risk of severe illness from COVID-19. We
are not able to provide PCR testing in our Emergency Department if you are not
a high-risk individual. High-risk individuals include
those with significant medical issues, and workers and residents in settings
such as long-term care and congregate living settings.
If you are not a high-risk
individual and have COVID-19 symptoms, presume that you are infected and self-isolate
to prevent transmission in the community. For more details on the Ministry guidelines,
please visit https://covid-19.ontario.ca
Thank you for your patience
and understanding. Please be safe and have a Happy New Year!
CPDMH Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We realize that coming to Emergency can be stressful.
Every ER patient is assessed by a Registered Nurse who is trained to triage or prioritize each patient’s problem on a scale of one to five - one is the most urgent and five is non-urgent. The nurse will ask you about your medications and any allergies you may have. Patients that are classified as one or two go straight inside for a more thorough examination. Those triaged as three to five may be asked to sit in the waiting room until their name is called. Patients arriving by ambulance are treated the exact same way.
While we try to estimate how long you will have to wait, this time may change if patients with more urgent needs arrive. Sometimes it seems like others who arrived later are being treated before you, but it is only because their needs are greater.
Please note that Emergency Department Staff do not give medical advice over the phone but will answer any questions about a recent visit.
The ER team includes specially trained health professionals who work together to provide the best possible patient and family centred care. They include physicians, registered nurses, lab technologists, diagnostic imaging technologists and support staff.
We appreciate your patience. Please speak to the triage nurse if you have any questions or if you feel your condition has become worse.
Parking is available onsite for $3 per visit. Please be sure to have cash for the parking with you, change machines are available onsite, but there is currently no ATM.
